Bovensiepen Zagato: The €370,000 ‘ALPINA successor’ that changes everything
22/04/2026
For decades, ALPINA existed in a very specific space.
That chapter is now officially over. With BMW taking full control of ALPINA, the Bovensiepen family (the people behind the brand) have stepped out and started something new. And their first statement is anything but subtle. Meet the Bovensiepen Zagato. A coachbuilt grand tourer with Italian design, German engineering, and a price tag that immediately tells you this is not business as usual.
A familiar base, completely redefined
Look closely, and you’ll recognise it. Underneath the bespoke body sits a BMW M4 Convertible. But that’s where the familiarity ends.
The entire exterior has been redesigned in collaboration with Zagato, replacing BMW’s aggressive sharpness with something far more elegant and fluid. Less track-focused, more grand touring, exactly where ALPINA used to shine.
Power comes from the well-known 3.0-litre straight-six, now pushed to 611 hp and 700 Nm. That’s more than a standard M4, but the intent is clearly different. This isn’t about lap times. This is about speed you can live with. Speed that feels effortless over long distances. At 1,875 kg, it’s no lightweight. But again, that’s the point.
€369,495 and that’s just the starting point
Let’s address the number. The Bovensiepen Zagato starts at €369,495 in Germany. Realistically, depending on market and taxes, you’re looking closer to €400,000+.
For what is, at its core, still linked to an M4 platform, that’s a serious ask. But here’s the reality: this car isn’t priced against an M4. It’s positioned against exclusivity.
Only 99 units will be built worldwide.
And if recent history tells us anything (think BMW 3.0 CSL) there are always enough buyers for something rare, beautifully executed, and different enough to stand apart.
Personalisation taken to another level
This is where things get interesting. The configurator is already live, and it’s clear Bovensiepen understands its audience. Exterior colours range from BMW Individual tones to unmistakable Ferrari-inspired finishes. Blues, greens, deep metallic reds, even shades borrowed from Porsche.
Inside, things go even further. Lavalina leather (a signature of classic ALPINA craftsmanship) returns in full force. Sixteen colour options, two-tone combinations, contrast stitching… the kind of detail that turns a car into something personal.
There are thousands of possible configurations. Because when you’re building just 99 cars, every single one needs to feel unique.
AutoNext Take
Let’s be clear: this isn’t a direct replacement for ALPINA. That brand, as we knew it, is evolving into something more integrated within BMW. What Bovensiepen is doing here is different.
While much of the industry is moving towards scale, electrification, and efficiency, projects like this remind us that there’s still a space for craftsmanship, individuality and character.
