The only matte black Ferrari Enzo has covered 21 km since 2024

Brunei's royal family ordered it in 2004 and had it delivered to London. Four countries later it is being sold on a platform that will never publish what it made.

Matte paint was a wrap-shop trick in 2004, and Ferrari built one Enzo in it

RM Sotheby's has listed the only Ferrari Enzo that left Maranello in Matte Nero Opaco, a finish the factory granted nobody else across roughly 400 cars. Bidding closes on 30 September, and it closes behind a curtain: the sale runs on the auction house's sealed platform, so whatever this car is worth will never be published. That absence matters more to the Enzo market than the paint does.

The only matte black Ferrari Enzo has covered 21 km since 2024

The odometer reads 5,763 km, and 5,742 of those were done before August 2024

The car shows 5,763 km from new at the time of cataloguing. When Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo replaced the clutch, both fuel pumps and the left-side valve cover gasket in August 2024, the odometer read 5,742 km. That is 21 kilometres in two years, on a car that was barely used to begin with. The figure is in kilometres rather than miles, which is worth stating plainly because several reports this week converted it the wrong way and nearly doubled the car's recorded use. Untouched mileage carries its own premium, as a 10 km Porsche 911 Carrera RSR proved when it doubled its 2023 price this year.

Ferrari built it between June and October 2004 in Nero over Rosso instruments

Work started on 8 June 2004 and finished that October. Rosso Corsa was the most common Enzo colour, followed by Giallo Modena and then gloss Nero, and matte was on nobody's order form. This was the first Ferrari hypercar the factory delivered new in such a finish, years before matte wraps reached every city centre. The cabin was specified to match, Nero leather with Rosso gauges and the large seats, so the car reads as one scheme rather than a paint experiment. Rare Enzo colours already command their own money, as the only Rosso Dino car showed when it sold online earlier this year.

Brunei's royal family had it delivered to a London address

The order came from a member of the Royal Family of Brunei, a household with a long record of commissioning European one-offs, including a Pininfarina-rebodied Jaguar XJ220. This Enzo was not built for concours lawns. It was kept at the family's London residence and made occasional appearances around Hampstead, Mayfair and Knightsbridge before being shipped to the Asia-Pacific region. It carries a New Zealand certificate of registration, sits today in Blenheim, Ontario, and is offered under a temporary import bond, with the buyer liable for every duty, tariff and tax it collects on the way home.

Carrozzeria Zanasi spent more than €110,000 on it in 2022

The Enzo returned to Europe in 2022 and went to Carrozzeria Zanasi, the shop Ferrari uses for its Icona cars and Tailor Made commissions. Invoices ran past €110,000, covering the sticky switches that afflict every early-2000s Ferrari, the front and rear headlights, the rear bonnet glass and a full repaint in the original Nero Opaco. It was Ferrari Classiche certified the same year and still holds its original chassis, engine, gearbox and bodywork. It then sold through RM Sotheby's to the current owner and went to Canada, where it has stayed.

A gloss Enzo made $10,675,000 in August, and that number is about to stand alone

The public benchmark is three weeks old. A 2003 Enzo in Nero D.S. over Rosso, offered without reserve, sold for $10,675,000 at Broad Arrow's Quail auction in August and topped a $97.4 million weekend. That car was one of three in its colour. This one is one of one, with a lower odometer and Classiche paperwork, and it is the one whose result nobody outside the room will ever see. Sealed bidding runs to 30 September and the figure stays private.

AutoNext Take

Sealed sales are excellent for sellers and quietly corrosive for everyone else, and this one makes the case better than any argument could. Enzo valuations currently rest on a single public print of $10,675,000, set by a gloss black car with more distance on it. If the rarest Enzo in existence trades privately on 30 September, that gloss car stays the published record no matter what this one makes. So check the Enzo guides next August: if the top of the range still reads around $10.7 million while the best cars are changing hands above it, the guides have stopped describing the market and started describing the leftovers.

The 21 kilometres are the part that should bother anyone who actually likes cars. The Enzo was Ferrari's first road car built around Formula 1 carbon thinking, with 660 hp and a paddle gearbox meant to be used in anger. Its value now depends on never using any of it, and this owner has been disciplined about that: one service in two years, and not enough distance to get the oil properly warm. Whoever wins it on 30 September is buying the same instruction.

Michael Jordan's lost Ferrari 550 Maranello is priced above the model's record

Michael Jordan's 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello, the car Tinker Hatfield drew the Air Jordan XIV from, has resurfaced in California after 24 years out of sight.
