Lexus TZ undercuts the RX, and Europe gets the 408 hp version
Lexus's six-seat TZ is longer than the RX and still costs less to buy
Lexus is taking orders for the TZ, its first six-seat electric SUV, and its first European price list puts it below the smaller RX. In the Netherlands the TZ 450e starts at €79,995 with a temporary €4,000 discount, against €86,795 for the cheapest RX. First cars reach Dutch dealers at the end of March 2027.
Lexus TZ prices: €83,995 before the discount, still below the RX
Without its temporary €4,000 model discount, the TZ 450e Standard Range costs €83,995 in the Netherlands, still €2,800 less than an RX. The 450e Long Range with the bigger battery costs €87,995, and the twin-motor TZ 550e President Line €96,495. At list price, the step to the larger battery is only €4,000, a modest charge for 18.8 kWh and 90 km more range. One caveat applies to every figure: Lexus based the Dutch prices on provisional 2027 BPM registration tax, so they can still move before the first cars are registered.
Lexus TZ is 5,100 mm long with six seats, 210 mm more than the RX
The TZ measures 5,100 mm with a 3,050 mm wheelbase, 210 mm longer than the RX and 200 mm longer between the axles. Lexus uses that space for six seats in three rows, with two captain's chairs in the middle. With all three rows up, the boot takes four 55-litre cases. The battery sits entirely under the floor, which lets the third row sit low enough for adults. Rear-wheel steering of up to 4 degrees makes the length manageable in town, and a 0.27 drag coefficient helps the range.
TZ 550e: Europe keeps the 408 hp output America lost
The Lexus TZ 550e gives European buyers 408 hp, in a version that is not on the American price list. It pairs the 95.8 kWh battery with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.2 seconds, at the cost of range: 480 km against 540 km for the 450e Long Range. In the United States, where the TZ goes on sale this year from $64,050, every version is a 450e with 308 hp. Lexus had earlier quoted about 402 hp for the American car, which in European terms is almost exactly what the 550e delivers here.
150 kW charging leaves the Lexus TZ behind the Volvo EX90 and Ioniq 9
The TZ charges at up to 150 kW DC, which Lexus says takes the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 28 minutes for the Standard Range and 35 minutes for the Long Range. A 22 kW AC charger is standard, which suits European three-phase connections. Its two most direct rivals are quicker at a motorway stop. The Volvo EX90 moved to 800-volt technology for model year 2026, and the Hyundai Ioniq 9 also runs at 800 volts. The EX90 Single Motor costs €82,995 in the Netherlands and claims 564 km, against 450 km for the cheapest TZ.
Lexus TZ shares e-TNGA with the electric Toyota Highlander and Subaru Getaway
The TZ sits on the e-TNGA platform it shares with the next electric Toyota Highlander and the Subaru Getaway, and it reaches showrooms first. Both twins arrive in America in 2027 as 2028 models. For now, the TZ is the only one of the three with a European price list. Lexus gives it its own tuning on top of the shared hardware, from a reinforced body to a Rear Comfort drive mode that coordinates steering, braking and torque split to keep the second and third rows settled.
AutoNext Take
Lexus has priced its biggest SUV like a smaller one, and that is the smartest decision in this launch. A six-seat electric Lexus below the cost of an RX gives families leaving a diesel XC90 or Q7 a reason to visit a brand they rarely consider, and the 550e keeps a proper top version for buyers who want one. Charging is the weak point: 150 kW at this price is a generation behind the EX90.
Price will carry the TZ further than charging holds it back. If it outsells the smaller RZ in the Netherlands over its first full year, to the end of March 2028, Lexus will have shown that Europe wanted a big electric family car more than another crossover, and the 550e will have earned the place America never gave it.
