MINI’s one-off JCW Convertible, a bespoke MINI.01 built by hand at Oxford
12/04/2026
The brand has taken customization to a completely different level.
In a remarkable factory-led project, MINI has hand-built a one-off MINI John Cooper Works Convertible for a long-time American enthusiast. The car, internally known as “MINI.01”, was crafted at Plant Oxford, pushing the brand’s personalization capabilities further than ever before.
A bespoke MINI born from a personal vision
The project started with a simple idea: a passionate MINI owner who wanted something truly unique.
Instead of redirecting the request to aftermarket specialists, MINI’s own design and production teams decided to take on the challenge themselves. The result is a car that blends factory craftsmanship with bespoke-level creativity.
The exterior immediately sets the tone. The car features a hand-sprayed two-tone finish combining Midnight Black and a custom-tinted metallic Eagle Green. What makes it truly unusual is the asymmetric paint layout: the left and right sides are inverted, creating a diagonal split across the entire body.
It’s a bold visual signature rarely seen on factory-built vehicles. Even the soft top tells a story. The roof integrates a tonal Union Jack graphic, a subtle tribute to MINI’s British heritage and the Oxford plant where the car was built.
More than 50 custom interior details
Step inside and the personalization continues everywhere. The cabin features a fully coordinated green-accent interior, with more than 50 bespoke details developed specifically for this car. Green stitching runs across the seats and trim, belt covers are painted to match the exterior theme, and numerous elements carry the unique “MINI.01” branding.
Among the highlights are:
Metallic green-trimmed Harman Kardon speaker surrounds
Custom door armrest overlays
A dedicated MINI.01 steering wheel badge
Personalized floor mats and instrument cluster identifiers
Every component was prototyped and installed by hand at Plant Oxford, demonstrating how far MINI was willing to go to bring a customer’s vision to life. According to MINI USA, the entire project reflects the idea that MINI owners see their car as “a canvas for self-expression.” In this case, that canvas became a completely unique factory-built vehicle.
Could this be the start of a MINI bespoke program?
The most intriguing detail might actually be the car’s name. Throughout the vehicle, the designation “MINI.01” appears alongside another label: “MINI Super Special 001.”
That wording strongly suggests this could be the first example of a potential series of bespoke MINIs, similar to the special projects divisions operated by luxury brands.
While MINI has not officially confirmed such a program, the project clearly demonstrates that the company has the design and production flexibility to build truly one-of-a-kind cars.
AutoNext Take
We usually associate bespoke car programs with hypercar brands or ultra-luxury manufacturers. Think Ferrari, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, or Bugatti, where customers can commission cars worth millions. Seeing the same philosophy applied to a compact performance convertible is something entirely different.
A one-off MINI might sound surprising today. But if this experiment proves successful, we would not be surprised to see MINI quietly expanding this concept, perhaps even bringing similar bespoke projects to Europe.
Because if MINI.01 exists, it inevitably raises the question: Where is MINI.02?
