Porsche PCCM Plus now fits 300,000 older 911s, Boxsters and Caymans
Porsche's CarPlay retrofit now covers the 911, Boxster and Cayman right up to 2016
Porsche puts the new generation of its PCCM Plus retrofit infotainment on sale at Porsche Centres worldwide, in two versions for the Porsche 911, Boxster and Cayman from model years 2009 to 2016. Porsche puts the eligible fleet at more than 300,000 cars. When the system first appeared in August, half of it was still marked coming soon. Now both units can be ordered and fitted.
Both PCCM Plus units, for the 997.2 and 991.1 generations, are now on sale
The two model-specific units are now available at Porsche Centres worldwide: one for the 991.1 911 and 981 Boxster and Cayman of model years 2012 to 2016, and one for the 997.2 911 and 987.2 Boxster and Cayman of 2009 to 2013. In August, Porsche's own product page listed only the 991.1 and 981 version as available and marked the older one coming soon, without a date. Seven weeks later that gap is closed. Porsche recommends fitting at a Porsche Centre, and which functions work depends on how the car was originally specified.
A 7-inch touchscreen and steering-wheel control replace the factory head unit
PCCM Plus sits in the original slot with a seven-inch touchscreen and, where the car left the factory with a multifunction steering wheel, can be operated from the wheel as well. Navigation instructions and the current track appear in the instrument cluster, and personal vehicle settings carry over. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connect wirelessly over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, a nano SIM slot adds 4G, and maps update over the air. In Europe the tuner handles DAB alongside FM and AM, and the unit connects to the car's existing sound system.
Boxster and Cayman owners get an on-screen parking display for the first time
The most practical addition is for the mid-engined cars. On the Boxster and Cayman, the factory parking aid could only beep; PCCM Plus now also shows the distance to obstacles on the screen. The trip display adds oil temperature and oil pressure, speed limits come from map data, and navigation can switch to satellite imagery or the Scenic Roads mode, which prefers winding routes to fast ones. Owners can even set the on-screen car to their own Porsche exterior colour. YouTube playback works only when parked, and only where national law allows it.
Porsche has not published a PCCM Plus price for the 997.2 and 991.1 units
The launch comes without a price. Porsche's release does not give one, and the new units are not listed in the Porsche online shop, so owners have to ask a Porsche Centre for a quote that includes fitting. That matters more than usual here, because every one of these cars already has an aftermarket alternative on sale, and a buyer choosing between them needs a number to compare.

This is the most useful thing Porsche will sell a 997 or 991.1 owner this year. The original head units in these cars have aged faster than the cars themselves, and PCCM Plus fixes that without a tablet stuck to the dashboard. The 300,000-car figure also explains why Porsche keeps working backwards through its range: each of those cars is another visit to a Porsche Centre, years after the new-car sale.
Porsche should put a price in its online shop before the end of 2026. Until it does, an owner weighing PCCM Plus against a third-party CarPlay interface is comparing a known cost with a phone call, and the cheaper, less integrated box will keep winning sales it should not.
