Renault 4 Jogging trades 5 km of range for a cheaper battery

The new entry Renault 4 takes the Renault 5 Five's 36.5 kWh LFP pack and a motor derived from Shanghai e-Drive's Twingo unit, while aero tweaks add just 2 and 6 km to the existing versions.

The cheapest Renault 4 runs the Renault 5 Five's powertrain in a taller body

Renault adds a cheaper Jogging version to the bottom of the Renault 4 E-Tech range. It arrives before the end of 2026 with a 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a 110 hp motor, rated at 305 km WLTP. Renault announced it on 8 October, and orders for the rest of the updated range open on 12 or 13 October, depending on version and country.

Renault 4 Jogging: 305 km from 36.5 kWh, 5 km short of the 40 kWh car

The Renault 4 Jogging covers up to 305 km WLTP on 36.5 kWh of usable LFP capacity, against 310 km for the 120 hp, 40 kWh Evolution that stays on sale above it. It reaches 100 km/h in 10.2 seconds. The bigger concession is home charging: the onboard AC charger drops from 11 kW to 6.6 kW, so a 10 to 80 percent top-up at a wallbox takes 3 hours 30 minutes. DC fast charging at 80 kW is standard, worth 10 to 80 percent in 25 minutes. Manual air conditioning and 18-inch steel wheels under covers complete the brief.

The Jogging shares the Renault 5 Five's battery and a Shanghai e-Drive motor

The Jogging uses the same 36.5 kWh cell-to-pack LFP battery and 110 hp motor that the Renault 5 Five received in September, and both carry an identical 305 km rating despite the Renault 4's larger body. The motor is derived from the Shanghai e-Drive unit that gives the new Twingo 82 hp, and it uses permanent magnets, where the other Renault 4 versions keep Renault's wound-rotor motor. The Jogging name itself comes from a special edition of the original 4L.

Renault 4 prices start at €29,990 in France, with the Jogging still unpriced

In France the Renault 4 starts at €29,990 for the 40 kWh Evolution and €33,490 for the 52 kWh Evolution, both €1,500 more than the equivalent Renault 5, while the Jogging has no price yet. The Renault 5 Five, with the same powertrain as the Jogging, sells for €24,990 there. In Belgium the 52 kWh Evolution starts at €33,350 and the new Roland-Garros edition with the Plein Sud canvas roof at €40,150, so the Jogging has to land well below both to meet Hyundai's Ioniq 3, from €29,995.

Aero changes add 2 km and 6 km to the 40 and 52 kWh Renault 4

Revised underbody fairings and new door mirrors lift the 40 kWh Renault 4 from 308 to 310 km WLTP and the 52 kWh car from 409 to 415 km, with combined consumption of 14.4 kWh per 100 km. The canvas-roofed Plein Sud now reaches 400 km. The same treatment gave the lower, shorter Renault 5 an extra 3 km and 20 km in August, which puts its 52 kWh version 15 km ahead of the Renault 4.

Every Renault 4 gains manual battery preconditioning and an HD camera

All Renault 4 versions, the Jogging included, now get manual battery preconditioning from the central screen, so the pack can warm up before a fast charger without routing to it in the navigation. A high-definition reversing camera becomes standard, Techno and Iconic buyers can add a 360-degree camera, and an emergency stop assistant brings the car to a halt if the interior camera finds the driver unresponsive. A second van version, the Renault 4 Van Extra, offers 1,045 litres of cargo space with Techno-level equipment in six markets.

Five kilometres, one second to 100 km/h and a slower wallbox charge are the whole price of the Jogging's LFP battery, and for a car bought to commute and do the school run that is a small bill. LFP cells also cope better with daily charging to 100 percent than the nickel-based packs above them, which makes the Jogging's 305 km more usable in practice than the Evolution's 310 km. What remains open is how much of the saving Renault passes on.

The Jogging will go on sale in France at no more than €26,490 before the end of 2026, the Renault 5 Five's €24,990 plus the €1,500 the Renault 4 already charges at every other step. At that price it becomes the first Renault 4 E-Tech under €27,000 and undercuts the 40 kWh Evolution by €3,500, a gap that leaves the Evolution hard to justify for anyone who does not need its 11 kW charger.
