Alfa Romeo's 33 Stradale Perla Nera wears nothing but bare carbon
One collector asked Alfa Romeo for a 33 Stradale with no paint on it
Alfa Romeo unveils the 33 Stradale Perla Nera at its museum in Arese, and it is the only one of the 33 cars to wear its carbon-fibre body without paint. The owner, a collector, chose the name, which means black pearl, and registered it as a trademark. It is also the first car from Bottega Alfa Romeo, the brand's new in-house atelier for one-off commissions.
Alfa Romeo's Perla Nera is the only 33 Stradale in bare matte carbon
Every panel of the Perla Nera is exposed carbon fibre with a matte finish, and the fibres were laid by hand in the moulds so that the weave follows the shape of the body. On the bonnet the pattern forms a V, while a herringbone runs from the nose over the roof to the tail. The wheels are black, and apart from the Alfa Romeo emblems the car carries no external badging.
Inside the Perla Nera: black Alcantara, carbon and engraved initials
The cabin matches the body in black Alcantara and carbon. The seats were reshaped around the owner, and their cannelloni pattern repeats on the door panels and sills. Each headrest carries a carbon insert with the Perla Nera name, the rotary drive selector is engraved with the owner's initials, and a matching luggage set carries the car's production number. That number is 3.
A 630 hp twin-turbo V6 and 333 km/h under the carbon
Mechanically the Perla Nera is a standard petrol 33 Stradale. Its 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 produces more than 630 hp and drives the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, good for 0 to 100 km/h in under three seconds and a top speed of 333 km/h. The structure is an aluminium H-frame around a carbon-fibre monocoque shared with the Maserati MC20, and every 33 Stradale is assembled by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera in Milan.
Bottega Alfa Romeo debuts inside the Bottegafuoriserie atelier
The Perla Nera launches Bottega Alfa Romeo, part of the Bottegafuoriserie atelier that already builds Maserati's one-offs, such as a GT2 Stradale honouring the MC12. The process is slow by design: the first American owner configured his 33 Stradale in Arese in May 2024 and took delivery in Austin, Texas, on 12 May 2026. The 33 Stradale itself sold out before its 2023 reveal and has since been named Design of the Year in Portugal.
The 1967 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale was a canvas for six concept cars
The original 33 Stradale ran to just 18 cars between 1967 and 1969. Franco Scaglione shaped it around a 2.0-litre V8 with 230 hp, and at US$17,000 it was the most expensive car on public sale in 1968. Its chassis also carried six concept bodies from Bertone, Pininfarina and Italdesign, among them the Carabo, the Navajo and the Iguana. Individual bodywork on a 33 is not a new idea, only a new kind of client.

In 1968 Alfa Romeo handed 33 Stradale chassis to Bertone, Pininfarina and Italdesign and let them reinvent the car. In 2026 that freedom goes to the buyer, and the Perla Nera shows it working. Nothing on it is new engineering, yet no other 33 looks like it, because the material that normally sits under the paint has become the design. Matte carbon is also unforgiving: every hand-laid join is on show, so the finish doubles as proof of the craftsmanship Alfa Romeo is selling.
The car stays on display in Arese until 18 October. Expect a second Bottega Alfa Romeo commission to go on show there before the concept Alfa Romeo is taking to Paris reaches production, because the atelier finally has an Alfa showpiece to sell from. It is a strong opening act: one car, no new parts, and a customer who knew exactly what to ask for.
